What you’re getting
Vinyl (PVC) fence comes as rails and boards or pickets that slide into routed posts. It won’t rot, never needs paint, and cleans up with a hose. White is the classic color. Tan, gray and woodgrain finishes are common too.
What matters in Acadiana
Solid vinyl privacy panels catch wind. In hurricane country, ask how the posts are set and whether they get aluminum inserts or concrete reinforcement at gates and ends. Heat can soften vinyl, so it needs a quality product with UV protection.
Vinyl doesn’t repair board by board as easily as wood. Keep a spare panel from the original order.
What a materials order includes
- Posts, rails and boards or pickets
- Post caps
- Gates with hinges and latches
- Aluminum post inserts where needed
- Concrete
Questions
Will vinyl turn yellow?
Quality vinyl has UV inhibitors to keep its color. Off-brand material is more likely to chalk or yellow, so ask what brand you’re getting.
Vinyl or wood?
Vinyl costs more up front and almost nothing to keep up. Wood costs less to start but needs an oil-based stain every few years and eventually new pickets. See our comparison.
Can vinyl handle storms?
It can, when it’s built right. Post depth, reinforcement and gate posts make the difference.
