What you’re getting
Chain link is woven steel fabric stretched between steel posts, with a top rail across the posts. Terminal posts at the ends, corners and gates carry the tension. Line posts in between hold the fabric up.
- Galvanized: the classic silver finish.
- Black vinyl-coated: a coated fabric and black posts. It blends into a yard and holds up better near salt air.
- Privacy slats: woven into the fabric if you want some screening later.
Gauge, in plain terms
Wire gauge runs backwards. A lower number means thicker wire. 9-gauge fabric is heavier and tougher than 11.5-gauge. For dogs that lean on the fence, or anything commercial, ask for the heavier wire and heavier posts.
What a materials order includes

- Line posts, terminal posts and top rail
- Tension bars, tension bands, brace bands and rail ends

Questions
Galvanized or black?
Galvanized costs less and lasts a long time. Black vinyl-coated fades into the yard, looks finished, and adds protection against rust.
Can chain link go on a slope?
Yes. The fabric follows the grade. Steep or uneven ground may need more posts or a bottom tension wire.
Is chain link good for dogs?
Yes, at the right height and gauge. Large dogs or jumpers usually need 5 or 6 ft and heavier wire.
