What you’re getting
Ornamental aluminum comes in powder-coated panels, usually about 6 feet wide, mounted between posts. It looks like wrought iron but doesn’t rust. In south Louisiana humidity, and near salt air, that’s the whole point.
- Flat top: a clean, modern line.
- Spear top: pickets that run past the top rail to a point.
- Puppy pickets: extra pickets at the bottom so small dogs can’t slip through.
Pools, slopes and slabs
Many aluminum styles are built to meet pool barrier rules, which usually require self-closing, self-latching gates. Check your local code before you order. Panels can be racked to follow a slope. Posts can be set in concrete or mounted on plates on a slab or wall.
Lead time
Common styles in black are often in stock. Special colors, heights and gates can take a few weeks from the manufacturer. Ask when you get your estimate.
What a materials order includes

Questions
Aluminum or steel?
Aluminum doesn’t rust and weighs less. Steel is stronger for security and heavy drive gates but needs rust care. For most homes here, aluminum is the easier choice.
Will aluminum work as a pool fence?
Many styles are designed for it. Pool barriers usually need a minimum height, tight picket spacing and self-closing, self-latching gates. Confirm your local code.
Can it go on a slope?
Yes. Rackable panels shift to follow the grade instead of stepping down.
